MOA of Febuxostat
Gout occurs when high levels of serum uric Acid build up in body, which can then form needle-shaped crystals in and around the joint causing Swelling and Pain in the joints.
MODE Of ACTION
- Febuxostat is a non-purine xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to treat gout.
- It works by non-competitively blocking the molybdenum pterin center, which is the active site of xanthine oxidase, which catalyzes the conversion of hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid.
- By inhibiting xanthine oxidase, febuxostat reduces the production of uric acid, which helps to lower serum uric acid levels and prevent the formation of gout crystals.
