What is the role of bile acid sequestrants in managing hyperlipidemia

ð Also called as bile acid binding resins and ion exchange resins

Bile acid sequestrants (BAS) are a class of medications used to treat hyperlipidemia, a condition characterized by high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. BAS work by binding to bile acids in the intestine and preventing them from being reabsorbed into the bloodstream. This causes the liver to produce more bile acids from cholesterol, which lowers cholesterol levels in the blood.
